The Northwest Association for Blind Athletes (NWABA) is pleased to announce that our regional Powerlifting team had returned from the Iron Gladiator Great Northern Bench Press and Deadlift Championships. Our team did phonemically well, breaking two world records and one state record. Rachel Talley (our only women lifter) started out with a bench of 55lbs, followed by 65lbs. She did not make her final bench of 70lbs. Rachel Started out with an 88lbs Deadlift, followed by 110, and 160. Fred Ramirez only competed in the bench press; he made two out of this three lifts.80, 130 and 155. Nick Wilks lifted in both bench and dead. His lifts were 110, 135 and 140 – Nick was red lighted on this final lift for Bench. For the Deadlift Nick did wonderfully, he broke a Washington State Record for the new WABDL Catergory (16 – 17). Nick had lifts of 200, 250, 270 & 310. Nick didn’t make his forth lift. Billy Henry did well in both bench and dead his bench was 137, 150 & 180; Billy did not make his final attempt on bench press. Billy did amazing his Deadlift, starting out with 220, followed by 250, and then an amazing 330lbs! Our last but diffidently not least lifter Jacob Hendee, only participated in the Deadlift, but set one world record, and beat it three times. Jacob started out with 90, and then went onto 140, then one 170, and ended with 192.7lbs. The NWABA Nightmare took second place out of three teams. All the lifters won huge swords, with plates to put on them this was our first meet as an organization, and we are excited to see it brings us. We learned what to do, and what not to do. Overall, this was a successful meet, and the lifters that participated will continue to get stronger and stronger throughout their Powerlifting carrier. If anyone wants to help support our team pleases contacts powerliftingsupport@nwaba.org – any donations or services are most appeceriated.
