NWABA is seeking a

Vice-president

Name: Northwest Association for Blind Athletes

Position: Vice-President

Announcement Date: December 24, 2007

Volunteer Description: The Northwest Association for Blind Athletes is in need of an experienced and reliable person to be the Vice-Presided of our Executive Board of Directors. This person will be responsible for assisting the Regional Programs director in Fundraising & Planning. The Vice-President reports directly to the President, and is second in the chain of command if the President resigns.

NWABA Mission: The Mission of the Northwest Association for Blind Athletes (NWABA) is to encourage blind and visually impaired athletes to participate in sporting programs. This will be accomplished by giving out scholarships to our members, and organizing regional sports teams. NWABA will support athletes of all ages without regard to race or religion.

NWABA History: NWABA was re-incorporated on May 5th,  2007 for the purpose of helping blind and visually impaired athletes in Washington, Oregon, Idaho & Montana. The idea of re-starting NWABA came when a group of Visually Impaired athletes and some supporters decided that their needed to be more sports opportunities for the blind in their area.

The first sport NWABA started with was Powerlifting, the team started with only having two or three interested lifters, and by the time they started training it grew to 5. Under the direction of Billy Henry, the team went to its first competition on June 9th, 2007. By the end of the meet, NWABA had racked up records, and a good amount of trophies. This was only the start to their success, over a four month period, the team attended 4 meets, placing at least third as a team in each, as well as taking home numerous records and awards from the WABDL.

Powerlifting is only one of the sports teams that NWABA intends to operate. In the upcoming months Goalball, Swimming, Judo & Track/Field programs will start. Keep checking back, to see what we've done and accomplished.

NWABA is looking for

Powerlifting Participants

The Northwest Association for Blind Athletes (NWABA) is gearing up for its second season of Powerlifting for Blind and Visually Impaired Athletes in the Northwest.

We encourage all of you to try out this sport, It’s a good way to stay Healthy and in Shape as well as add some muscle. Powerlifting is not hard to learn at all if your willing to put some time in, and are able to come to a few practices (and a training camp every once and awhile for you out of town folks) we’ll teach you the LIFTS!

Weight training is a natural means of exercise for the blind, as it requires little start-up expenses and can be achieved at home or in a gymnasium. For the competitive athlete who is looking for an activity that he or she can perform with able-bodied individuals, Powerlifting is one of the few sports where a blind person can compete on an equal basis.” – From the International Blind Sports Association

The Mission of the Northwest Association for Blind Athletes (NWABA) is to encourage blind and visually impaired athletes to participate in sporting programs. This will be accomplished by giving out scholarships to our members, and organizing regional sports teams. NWABA will support athletes of all ages without regard to race or religion.
