Vision: To offer athletic opportunities to all blind and visually impaired athletes in Washington, Oregon, Idaho & Montana.

 

Mission: The Mission of the Northwest Association for Blind Athletes (NWABA) is to encourage blind and visually impaired athletes to participate in sporting programs. This will be accomplished by giving out scholarships to our members, and organizing regional sports teams. NWABA will support athletes of all ages without regard to race or religion.

 

Values:

  1. Development of sports programs for all blind and visually impaired individuals in the Northwest.

  2. Use resources to best serve our members.

  3. Development of partnerships with other organizations.

  4. Communication with our national organization - United States Association of Blind Athletes

Lifters win, set records

Members of the Northwest Association of Blind Athletes power lifting team posted 11 first-place finishes at the World Association of Bench press and Deadlifts state championships on Saturday in Aberdeen.

Arlando Hicks set a WABDL world record for disabled men in the 259-pound weight class with a bench press of 165.2 pounds. He also won the bench press for teen men and his weight.

Billy Henry, NWABA coach, set a state record with a deadlift of 347 pounds to win the teen men competition for the 242-pound weight class. Henry also won the bench press with a mark of 176.2 pounds.

Nick Wilks won the teen men competition at 165 pounds with a team-record bench press of 115.5 pounds, and a deadlift of 281 pounds.

At 132 pounds, Jesse Curtis took first place in the bench press with a personal-record lift of 154.2 pounds, a team record. He also won the deadlift for teen men his weight with a lift of 290 pounds.

Jacqueline Patching used a team-record bench press of 66 pounds to win the 114-pound teen women competition. She also won the deadlift with PR of 110 pounds.

In the 123 weight class, Rachel Talley won the bench press for both disabled women and teen women with a mark of 82.4 pounds.

Based in Vancouver, the Northwest Association of Blind Athletes promotes sports for visually-impaired.
